Beginning in the charming town of Füssen, the route combines half asphalt and half forest trails, delivering a memorable mix of terrain and scenery. Participants weave through the Hopfer forest, skirt the serene shores of Lake Hopfensee and Lake Forggensee, and cross the floodplains of the Lech River before reaching the marathon’s most iconic highlights—the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Results: Schmidt runs away with it in Bavaria

23 Jul, 2015 (Thu)

Marathon results Paul Schmidt finished almost 25 minutes ahead of a nearly 500 runner field to win the 15th annual Konigsschlosser Romantik Lauf Marathon in East Allgau of Bavaria. Schmidt crosses the German country side, castles included, working through woodlands and past a pair of lakes in a convincing 2:27:29. Frank Merrbach (2:53:48) made it in just a step ahead of Pierre Fournier (2:53:51) for third. For the women, it was Doris Marquardt in dominating fashion. Taking first with a time of 3:03:04, Marquardt crossed the finish line just shy of 15 minutes faster than the next best finisher. Runner-up Maria Magdalena (3:18:02) managed to hold off Karen Sobrino (3:18:41) for second.
