About the event
The Košice Peace Marathon is Europe’s oldest marathon and one of the world’s most historically significant road races. First held in 1924 and uninterrupted since 1941, it stands as a testament to endurance through time, war, and change. The course is a flat, fast, double-loop circuit through the heart of Košice, Slovakia, entirely asphalted and closed to traffic. With just 74 meters of total elevation gain and minimal turns, the route is engineered for speed—ideal for personal bests and elite competition. It holds IAAF Label status and has attracted Olympic and world-class athletes since its early years, including Abebe Bikila and Juan Carlos Zabala. Beyond the race itself, the event is rich in tradition, with an atmosphere steeped in history and national pride, drawing top-tier talent and serious runners from across the globe every October.
