Napoli Running announces race calendar and opening of registrations for the Sorrento Positano on 5 december 2021 and the Napoli City Half Marathon on 27 February 2022

02 Jul, 2021 (Fri)

Mass participation events receive an injection of confidence thanks to the slowing of the epidemic curve and the effects of the vaccination campaign. NAPLES – There is enthusiasm, a desire to run again in the magical and unique places of the running events organized by Napoli Running. Sorrento, Positano, as well as the city of Naples await runners and their energy, their wish to be there and have fun in a healthy way. Today’s Announcement reveals the dates: Sorrento Positano is scheduled for 5 December 2021 and the Napoli City Half Marathon for 27 February 2022. “We are happy that this day has arrived. The hope is that we will soon be able to savor the taste of running, of competition, of being with friends for a whole weekend, of visiting a city”, says Carlo Capalbo, President of Napoli Running. “It is time that we must persevere and move forward, as if we were in the last kilometer of a marathon, aware that we will soon find full freedom. The commitment of all the staff of Napoli Running, as always, will be to bring the city of Naples and all running in Italy back to the runners, thanks to the Sorrento Positano and the Napoli City Half Marathon”. “This is a great opportunity to make the beauties of our territory known to the world, and to offer to the many participants of this important sport event a taste of our hospitality”, were the words of Massimo Coppola, Mayor of Sorrento. “An important opportunity to promote the city of Naples worldwide. We are confident that this event will be able to convey the true identity of the Neapolitan people, made up of determination, passion and courage. We expect a significant tourist turnout in the coming months. The restart of Italy depends on initiatives like this”, said Ruben Santopietro, one of the founders of ‘Visit Italy’, the online guide to Italy, based in Milan and Naples. SORRENTO POSITANO – On Sunday, 5 December 2021 the available distances will be “Ultramarathon” of 54 km awarded by the International Association of Ultramarathons with an IAU Road Race Bronze label, and the “Panoramica” of 27 km. The Ultra Marathon will start at dawn, 6.30 in the morning, while the Panoramica at 9.00 am. The courses stand out for a unique panorama of the Sorrento and Amalfi coasts, a UNESCO heritage site, territories framing ancient cultures and lands of centuries-old traditions. Sorrento will wait for runners dressed up with lights, trees, and Christmas decorations that will add that emotional note that makes this event even more extraordinary. The event is also part of the IUTA (Italian Ultramarathon and Trail Association) calendar of events and assigns two further prizes: “Nastro Verde Grand Prix” on the distance of the half marathon 21,0975km for the ‘Panoramica’ race and “Trofeo della Costiera” at the passage to 50km in the 54km race. NAPOLI CITY HALF MARATHON – The countdown for the ninth edition of the Napoli City Half Marathon has started. The race, awarded with the World Athletics Bronze Label and Five Stars of the European Athletics Federation, will take place on Sunday, 27 February 2022. Thanks to the very fast course, ideal for setting personal best, and to the beauty of the city, a window on the Gulf that hosts Capri, Ischia and Procida, islands of unparalleled beauty, the race has now become a landmark in the panorama of international half marathons and represents one of most participated races in Italy. In 2020 the Napoli City Half Marathon was the last international event held as a mass event with seven thousand competitive runners and more than a thousand at the Family Run & Friends, which led to an immediate economic impact calculated in almost 4 million euros for the city. In the 2022 edition, the course will start from Viale Kennedy and will develop along the seafront before entering the heart of the city. The event has always been an opportunity to bring to the attention of the local population issues of a social nature such as legality, the impact of waste on the environment, or charities. Registrations are open, click here for the Sorrento Positano and here for the Napoli City Half Marathon.

9 questions to discover a marathon : Marathon Coast To Coast

22 Oct, 2009 (Thu)

Alessandro di Maio acted as the representative of the Napoli Nord Marathon association to present the new marathon they organize in Campania, Italy. The team counts over 150 members and nearly all of them are Marathon lovers (many of them have run over a 100 marathons !). They consider themselves as both amateurs and good athletes. ’We are a team, we run against ourselves for a collective victory; we are a family, we love Marathons, we are Napoli Nord Marathon! ’ Hello, on December 27th, you’ll be organizing the Maratona Coast To Coast . Can you tell us where it is located? It’s located in Italy, on the famous ‘Costiera’ road, between Sorrento and Amalfi. §staticmap(3503) This will be the inaugural edition of the race. Why was it created? Because of the beauty of those places many people enjoy driving cars and motorbikes on the windy mountain road overlooking the sea. Many people go cycling there too. It is also full of tourists in the summer, but not many people go there in the winter, so we figured it would be perfect for a winter Marathon and a holiday at the same time. What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? The route we chose is highly challenging: the road runs along a rugged coastline, with many ups and downs. We couldn’t imagine a more thrilling and rewarding route, you’ll never forget it. Not ideal, perhaps, for doing your best time, it is not a ‘fast’ marathon, but excellent for preparing your next 42km or any other race. Credit : jimmyharris How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? Our team is well-known over Italy, so we’ll be able to attract runners from region Campania and Italy in general. Many of us run marathons around Europe (Budapest, Barcelona, Lathi, Berlin, London etc.), someone like pace-maker, so we hope to attract foreigners too! We aim to attract runners interested in discovering the beauties of our country within an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship that always comes from running together. It will not be a mass Marathon: we would be very happy to have 1000 participants. Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances? We organize a 10km race on the 26th of December in Positano, along the marathon’s route At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? Temperature should be around 10°C (50°F) if not more. It doesn’t rain very often, so on a sunny day the climate would be just perfect. Maybe just a little windy. Have you planned festivities around the marathon? Most people are on holiday between Xmas and the new Year…and most athletes spend their vacation running…. The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Maiori before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? The whole area is renowned for food and good restaurant. we wouldn’t know which one to pick, there are too many. We would advise visiting Ravello, a small town perched on the mountains, famous for its renaissance villas like Villa Cimbri; the auditorium, temple of Opera designed by Renzo Piano, all overlooking Amalfi and Salerno; home of famous artists like Andy Warhol and Gore Vidal. Vietri is famous for its production of ceramics, Positano for its clothes, Agerola for its cheeses, Montepertuso, the ‘Sentiero degli Dei’ (‘Gods’ pathway’), a panoramic trek from Agerola all the way down to the sea. There will be conventions with Hotels, see www.maratonacoasttocoast.com for more information. Credit : Allerina & Glen MacLarty In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Maratona Coast To Coast? Come and discover Italy through running, free of charge, as we will pay for your enrollment fee if you make it in 6 hours.
